Finance Minister T Harish Rao has said that the green cover in Telangana State had increased by 3.67 percent following the efforts of the TRS government since the State was formed in 2014.

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating Tejovanam, an urban park developed in 205 hectares of forest land at Nagulabanda on the outskirts of Siddipet town on Thursday.

Harish Rao has said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao conceived Telangana Ku Haritha Haram, a massive afforestation program that has improved the green cover considerably in the past six years.

Giving utmost priority to improving forest areas in Telangana, the Minister said the government decided to allot 10 percent of the budget from local bodies to TKHH.

the park was developed in about 40 hectares providing various recreation facilities, he said, adding that indoor and outdoor games facilities were also available in the park.

The Minister said the park also has a cycling track, walking track, and separate facilities for Yoga and meditation. The government, he said, would develop adventure sports.

Stating that the parkinging area was home to spotted deer, wild hare, python and a variety of birds, he said mouse deers would also be release soon into the park besides setting up an open library.
