KTR is ready for GHMC Polls?

Wondering what is Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) leader, son of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Minister for Industries, IT and Urban development KT Rama Rao up to these days? He is busy inaugurating flyovers, new roads, repairing of old roads, participating in discussion that pertain city, etc. Why is he doing all these when the state is suffering with covid-19 pandemic? Is he not concerned about the Covid-19?

Simple logic is that by February end the term of the existing elected body of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and it will have to go for elections once again. So KTR is preparing ground for his party to win the elections! His active participation in different developmental activities in the city as well as welfare programmes proves that TRS and KTR are keen to hold the forte in Hyderabad and they have already started their campaign.

Though the Municipal Act provides the government to take up elections six months prior to the end of the term, it seems the state government is not keen on it. With Covid-19 fears high across the city, KTR wants the government officials to go slow on the elections and let the entire term be completed. Going by the present conditions and surge in cases in the city, the elections might get postponed by a month or two!

But KTR wants to make the best of the time and show to people that they completed so many projects and many more to come up soon. KTR also hopes that by that time, the Covid pandemic would be totally under control and a situation to hold the GHMC polls would be there.

Among the pet projects of KTR one is Strategic Road Development Project (SRDP), time and again he has been talking about this. The State government has initiated 14 works under the SRDP and so far completed five projects. The Urban Development minister has asked the officials to complete them in war-footing before the elections are announced.

KTR had inaugurated flyovers at the Biodiversity junction, Kamineni junction, LB Nagar underpass and also laid foundations at Fatehnagar, Sanathnagar Industrial park and other places. Apart from the roads and flyovers, he has been focusing on the basic amenities in the municipalities. The government is focusing on increasing Basti Dawakhanas in the city. Ten more Basti Dawakhanas would be coming up in the city. Presently there are 168 Basti Dawakhanas. The government has planned to handover one Lakh double bedroom houses to the beneficiaries by Dasara.

All these are aimed at keeping the GHMC in TRS hold and looks like there will be several more projects that will be lined up before the elections. Will the opposition, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress wake up and give a run for their money to KTR?
