Andhra government sets up help desk

Vijayawada, Nov 10 : A day after Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination notes were demonetised, the Andhra Pradesh government on Wednesday set up a help desk to guide people on exchange of old notes at banks and post offices.

Chief Secretary S.P. Tucker said the help desk has been set up at the Command and Control Centre, Durga Ghat, Vijayawada. People can dial toll-free number 1800-599-1111 in case of any problem.

As a large number of people are expected to approach banks and post offices from Thursday for exchange/deposit of old notes, leading to overcrowding, the Chief Secretary directed the District Collectors to take crowd control measures.

He asked the Collectors to call meetings of District Coordination Committees of bankers and district postal authorities along with police on Thursday morning to take necessary steps for orderly functioning of bank branches and post offices to avoid any law and order problems.

Tucker suggested that in coordination with these committees, a control room be set up at every district headquarter with a toll-free help desk facility for public assistance, clarifications and guidance.
