GM Mustard policy on hold?

New Delhi July 18: A case was heard by the supreme court. The government yesterday has informed the Supreme Court that the final decision on the commercial release of the Genetically Modified (GM) mustard crop has not yet been taken.

The government has said that it is evaluating whether there is any merit in the objections received and its impact on the environment and also positive suggestions are also being examined.

However, the court has said that government must inform within one week when the policy would be finalised and also said that whatever the policy framed must be good-intentioned and well-informed.

The above arguments were heard during a petition filed by activist Aruna Rodrigues. He had alleged that the government was going to release GM seeds without a safety audit being concerned. Let's hope that the government follows SC orders.
