Kamal Hassan will stop doing films

Chennai, Jun 03: Cine actor Kamal Hassan expressed his unhappiness over 28% GST tax on film Industry. Speaking to the media in film chamber office at Chennai, the actor criticized the government's decision. If the taxation is not minimized, the 62-yr-old actor will step out of the film industry.

He added, "we invite the GST system. But the same taxation for regional films and international films is not so correct. Regional and small cinemas are the strength of the domestic films. If the higher taxes are imposed, the industry will lose. I won't agree with this system. If the GST rate is not reduced to 12 (or) 15 percent, I'll get away from movies. I'm not a government representative .. I work for the film industry".

Is it an East India company to impose a heavy tax on low budget films?, the actor questioned the Government.

It is already known that the Central Government has come up with an ambitious single tax policy, i.e., GST. This will come into the effect from July 1st. The goods and services will be taxed under this method of 5, 12, 18, 28 series.

The tax slabs will be set up today for key sectors of the government, which have already allotted taxes for many sectors.
