Hyderabad, October 30: Mission Kakatiya, one of the flagship schemes of TRS Government, has not only increased the irrigation intensity but also enhanced the crop yield.There was a 51.5 percent increase in the gross area irrigated under tank irrigation after the renovation of tanks under Mission Kakatiya Phase-1 works.The programme, which is aimed at rejuvenating villages tanks over a five year period, has proved to be of immense help to farmers in the State in adopting a promising agriculture system that is less prone to consequences associated largely with heavy use of fertilizers and pesticides.The Scheme has been yielding good results, including improved crop yield, groundwater, and household agriculture income in the tank baseline areas.Mission Kakatiya - I was launched by the state government on March 12, 2015, to restore all 46,531 minor irrigation tanks in the state.The programme is designed to irrigate 25 lakh acres in the state in five years i.e 20% of tanks every year.The Impact Assessment Report, submitted to the State government on Sunday, was described by the Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao as "a splendid job by NABCONS and its findings amazing." A 51.5 percent increase in the gross area irrigated under tank ayacut was found over the base year (2013) under the tanks renovated in Mission Kakatiya Phase-I.
