GHMC constructs flyover to reduce traffic jam towards IT corridors

Hyderabad, Oct 25: Amid to reduce the traffic on the roads heading towards IT corridors, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is constructing a flyover on the old Bombay Highway from SBI Bank near Aditya Towers to Leather Park, Dargah. The municipal corporation is already constructing underpasses at Madhapur, flyovers at Inorbit Mall and Botanical Gardens to clear traffic gridlocks and ensure smooth traffic flow in the locality. The latest under this initiative is the flyover on the old Bombay Highway. The six-lane flyover will facilitate two-way traffic crossing at all the crucial junctions, including Shaikpet junction, Film Nagar Road junction, OU Colony and Whisper Valley junction. The 2.8-km long flyover is to be constructed with a cost of Rs 220 crore and already the municipal corporation has floated tenders for taking up the project. The route is a high traffic zone as it leads to several corporate and IT companies. After getting down the Tolichowki flyover, motorists heading towards Government Institute of Leather Technology (Leather Park) have to invariably pass through three to four junctions. To address the traffic woes, GHMC authorities are now constructing the flyover, which will aid in reducing the travel time considerably from the Galaxy theatre end to Leather Park. The flyover will commence from SBI Bank near Aditya Tower and culminate nearly 100 m before the Leather Park. Save for about 15 properties, it was planned in such a way that not many properties had to be acquired for constructing the flyover, explained a senior official from GHMC.
