Court summons Kejriwal in defamation case

New Delhi, March 6: A court here on Monday issued summons to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on a defamation petition filed by Rajya Sabha MP and Essel Group Chairman Subhash Chandra.

Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Sarvaria asked Kejriwal to appear before the court on July 29.

Chandra sought Kejriwal's prosecution for allegedly defaming him by levelling false allegations in the wake of demonetisation of high-value currency notes.

The Aam Aadmi Party leader had allegedly mentioned Chandra's name while referring to those who had amassed black money.

Chandra said in his petition that Kejriwal had made "false, fabricated and defamatory allegations" against him while addressing a press conference on November 11.

Chandra sought Kejriwal's prosecution under Section 500 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code.
