Flipkart to tie up with Microsoft

Bengaluru February 21: E-commerce firm Flipkart has decided to embrace the public cloud for the first time. It will use Microsoft's Azure as its cloud platform. Flipkart will continue to use its existing internal data centre infrastructure but plans to start using Azure in a big way, the company said.

The announcement was made by Flipkart co-founder and group CEO Binny Bansal at a discussion with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. Bansal said, "This partnership allows us to leverage a range of powerful artificial intelligence, machine learning and analytics capabilities that deliver a more personalized shopping experience for customers," he said.

He also added that it will help also to optimize the supply chain. He said Flipkart hopes to touch 500 million users over the next ten years and Microsoft's AI and other technologies could help to scale fast, and provide richer experiences.

Microsoft said that the company has seen more than 2,000 new startups adopting Microsoft's Azure cloud in last 12 months.
