Why Karunanidhi wore black glasses?

Chennai, Aug 08: We all knew the shocking news that Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam patriarch M Karunanidhi passed away on Tuesday evening at the age of 94. He had served as Tamil Nadu's chief minister for five separate times between 1969-2011.

Karunanidhi has not just made a mark with his politics in Tamil Nadu, but his stylish black spectacles also grabbed the attention of everyone.

He has been using black glasses for almost 46 years now and his white attire with black specs has created a new trend in Tamil Nadu.

Karunanidhi started wearing black goggles after a car accident which he met after the Dalmiyapuram movement, and since then, he's continuously using it on doctors recommendation. This information was divulged by one of the senior DMK.

Ful details:

In the late 1960s, Karunanidhi had met an accident in which his left eye was damaged. To protect his eyes from exposure to sunlight, he started using a pair of glasses on doctors' recommendation. He was advised to avoid strain to his severely weakened eye and had used dark glasses to protect it.

However, the dark goggles he used became a style statement, which was followed by several other politicians in Tamilnadu. Karunanidhi's friend-turned-foe MG Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR, also had made dark glasses his signature fashion.
