Telangana Govt to launch Mid Day Meals scheme

Hyderabad, July 29: In a major initiative,The Telangana State Government will be launching soon yet another program of providing Mid Day Meals scheme across the State, including Degree, Junior, BEd, DEd, Polytechnic, and Model Junior Colleges.

A delegation of Akshaya Patra Foundation attended the crucial meeting held at the Secretariat here chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari, who discussed the key program with Finance Minister Eatala Rajender, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and Housing Minister A Indrakaran Reddy and officials.

Another round of meeting to be held on August 3 is likely to formulate guidelines and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will take a final decision. With this, as many as five lakh students studying in assorted colleges across the State will benefit, according to estimates prepared by the officials concerned.

The popular Akshaya Patra Foundation has come forward to sponsor the program to provide food facility to these colleges. The ministers asked the Foundation to prepare proposals and give three lists of food items with quality and nutritious items .

The government asked the Foundation to give three proposals, including provision of midday meals by supplying required essential items and foundation will provide essentials and food and finally provide food items, including Pulihora, black rice, upma, korralu, jonnalu, ragulu, sajjalu and other nutritious items . The ministers also instructed the foundation to get ready with facilities, infrastructure such as kitchen to provide mid-day meals food to the served to students in 31 districts across the State.

The Foundation was also asked to consult if necessary with nearby hotels and Messes to take their help to supply the food to the colleges in the districts.

On getting complete details and proposals, another round of meeting will be conducted in the Secretariat on August 3 to take a final decision. Education Principal Secretary Ranjiv Acharya, Inter-Board Secretary Ashok, State Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan Joint Director Ramesh and other officials were present.
