Telangana to setup Mini-Theatres at bus stands soon

Hyderabad, July 29: In a major initiative, The Telangana State Film Development Corporation (TSFDC) has come to the rescue of loss-making Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) by offering to construct the mini-theatres at bus stands.

For the last two years, TSRTC has been trying to construct mini-theatres to augment revenues of the State-owned fleet. However, there was barely any response to its invitation for tenders. As RTC was confused about the way forward, the film development corporation came forward with the proposal.

TSRTC chairman Somarapu Satyanarayana and TS Film Development Corporation chairman P Ram Mohan Rao are in touch with Cinematography Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav on the construction of mini-theatres.

"If there is no response from the private persons again, the FDC will construct the mini-theatres on its own and share some portion of the revenue with the RTC. We will soon submit our proposals to the government to reduce the losses to RTC," TSFDC chairman P Ram Mohan Rao told Express on Saturday.

In bus stand like MGBS, the seating capacity of the theatre may go up to 600 to 1,000. But, in bus stands like Asifabad, the seating capacity will only be around 100 to 200.

The TSRTC has already studied the Vadodara model. In Vadodara, the commercial complexes constructed at bus stands were generating good revenues to Gujarat RTC. The APSRTC too succeeded in generating money using similar technique.
