Telangana Govt plans to setup new Power Plant

Hyderabad, July 25: In a significant development, The Telangana State government has accorded permission for setting up of the third unit of 800 MW capacity thermal unit under phase II expansion of the Singareni Thermal Power Station (STPS) at Jaipur in Mancherial district, top SCCL officials said.

SS Shankar, Director Electrical, Mechanical and Finance, S Chandra Sekhar, Director, Operations and B Bhaskar Rao, Director Planning and Projects, in an informal chat with the media late on Monday evening, said that the unit, planned with supercritical technology, was estimated to cost Rs 5,879.62 crore and will be taken up as an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) project.

The STPP which has two units of 600 MW each stood fifth among the 25 best performing thermal power stations in the country with a Plant Load Factor of 91.1 percent in 2017-18.

The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) set up the STPS to enter the new horizon of power business and has emerged as one of the successful ventures of the company.

The unit was set up at Jaipur taking advantage of the abundant availability of Godavari water at the location and sufficient coal from its own reserves. In addition to this, SCCL was allotted the Naini coal block at Talcher in Angul district of Odisha as linkage for coal supplies to the STPP.

The STPP was able to provide power to the State at the cheapest rate, compared to other companies in power generation.

The Vijayawada-based AP Heavy Machinery and Engineering Limited is a subsidiary of SCCL and there is no change in its status. Though AP has been staking claim over APHMEL, it would remain to be part of the SCCL, they said.
