No woman minister by Telangana CM

Hyderabad, July 22: Hyderabad: A public interest lawsuit has been moved before the Hyderabad High Court seeking to declare the action of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in not initiating at least 1 woman legislator as the minister in his Cabinet as illegal.

Mr Dara Srisailam, a practicing advocate from Warangal, moved the PIL saying that the act of the Chief Minister in not referring the name of a women MLA to the Governor from June 2, 2014, to appoint as minister in his Cabinet was paradoxical of Articles 14, 15, 16, 21 and 164 of the Constitution.

He contended that the mere non-mention of the word 'women' in Articles 74, 75 and 164 of the Constitution does not amount to prohibiting women MPs (or) MLAs from securing berths in the Council of Ministers either at the Centre (or) in the state.

He alleged that the Chief Minister acting as per his wish by not inducting SC, ST, BC women MLAs into the Council of Ministers.
