RBI to issue new Rs.100 currency note

New Delhi, July 19: In a shocking move, The Reserve Bank of India will shortly release the new Rs 100 currency note, the Central Bank said in a press release.


The new currency note will have lavender as its base colour.


"The note has other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both at the obverse and reverse. Dimension of the banknote will be 66 mm × 142 mm," the RBI said in a press release.


The old Rs 100 currency note will continue to be legal tender.


The new note will host motif of "Rani ki Vav" (Queen's stepwell) on the reverse side. Located in Gujarat's Patan, "Rani ki Vav" is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.


For visually impaired, the new note features "intaglio or raised printing of Mahatma Gandhi portrait, Ashoka Pillar emblem, raised triangular identification mark with micro-text 100, four angular bleed lines both on the right and left sides".


Here are five things to know about the new Rs. 100 banknote:


1. The dimensions of the new Rs. 100 banknote will be 66 mm x 142 mm.


2. Printing and supply of the new Rs. 100 banknote "will gradually increase", the RBI said.


3. The note has other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both at the obverse and reverse.


4. On the front side, also known as the obverse, the new Rs. 100 banknote will have features such as a see-through register with the denominational numeral 100 in the Devanagari script.


5. On the reverse side, the Rs. 100 note will have the year of printing on the left and the Swachh Bharat logo with the slogan.
