17 accused for raping minor deaf girl thrashed by Lawyers - Watch

Chennai, July 18: In a horrible incident, 17 men accused of raping a deaf girl for 7 months in Chennai were thrashed by a handful of lawyers when they were produced before the justice in a women's court as public anger and shock at the child's incursion coiled.


In a video of the charge, which has gone viral, a group of men in white shirts and black trousers are seen dragging a man from steps, bashing him with fists and kicking him on his stomach while police personnel strived to defend the accused.

Reportedly, it is informed, Chennai High Court Advocate Association President Mohana Krishnan said that no lawyer will take up the case of any of the accused.


Police arrested the men, including 300-flat building's security guards, plumber and lift operator, on Tuesday following a complaint by the victim's father on Sunday. All of them were produced before the court which remanded them to judicial custody till July 31.


"The girl has stated that she was maltreated by 11 people and has identified 17 persons (including aide of the alleged perpetrators of the crime)," a senior police official informed.


 


The official said the victim identified all the accused. Somewhat 4 of them have confided to the assault and two others said they had molested the girl, the official added.


Police said the girl was first sexually assaulted by a 66-year-old lift operator after she returned from school and was cycling around the complex and later several others joined in the violation.


He allegedly invited other men who recorded each other raping the child. As the torture continued she was becalmed with injections and drug-laced soft drinks, reports said.


According to reports, the accused took the girl to various places in the complex including the basement, terrace, gym and public restrooms to rape her.

The incident came to the limelight after the girl told her family who then lodged a police complaint. She is now receiving medical attention. Police said further investigations were on and that CCTV footage would be analyzed.
