Hyderabad Police initiative appreciated

Hyderabad, July 18: Hyderabad: Police of Hyderabad will be instructed in handling with victims of child pornography, online pornography and other forms of child sexual misuse in a sensitive manner, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar has said.

He was attending a training workshop, 'Choke the Demand', organized by change.org about child pornography that diffused a light on how there is a high demand for them for online pornography.

"The most targeted are the children coming from rural background and poverty hit families and we want our police force to be well arrayed with dealing with victims of such cases in a sensitive manner," he said.

He said that that they are also to be trained on cybercrimes and the emerging trends like social media and dark net that threaten children's safety.

Around 100 senior police officers of the Hyderabad City Police participated in the two-day workshop focussed on anticipatory addressing the commercial sexual exploitation of children.

Shikha Goel, the additional commissioner of police, Hyderabad, said that crimes against children are on the surge across the country and not only here.

"Child abuse generally means commercial sexual exploitation and with pornography being used to blackmail and fiance children into being sexually exploited for monetary gain," she said, adding that as part of its mandate to curb violence against children, the Hyderabad City police has decided to practically address child trafficking and commercial sexual profiteering of children.

Roop Sen, Partner at Change Mantras, said, "Proactive measures like this workshop ensure that we are all better prepared to deal with this problem, not only in terms of improving police capacity to handle such crimes but also in terms of greatest use of resources to encounter the higher tendency in crimes against kids."
