East Godavari: 10 missing after a boat overturned

Amaravati, July 14: Around 10 people are reportedly missing after a country boat overturned in the Gautami river in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh here on Saturday afternoon.

According to the information available from close sources, the boat bottom-side-up after running into a pillar of a bridge.

Additionally, 40 people, mostly students, were said to be travelling in the boat, state Disaster Management Department sources revealed.

The Rescue teams belonging to the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force have rushed to the spot as soon as they got informed.

Partially 10 people are said to have been rescued by locals while efforts were on to whiff the others.

However, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nara Chandrababu Naidu has aimed the district officials to intensify the rescue operations, sources said.

The Gautami river is a tributary of the Godavari.
