GHMC: Make a phone call, get a desired plant

Hyderabad, July 09: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has set itself a target of planting 40 lakh saplings this year under the fourth edition of Haritha Haram.

Of these, 35 lakh will be distributed to citizens free of cost and the rest will be planted by the corporation in different open places across the city.

Now, GHMC is providing a new facility, which is delivering customer desired plants free of cost, then citizens have to make a phone call which has shown in website http://greenhyderabad.cgg.gov.in

During 2016-17, it had planted 84.91 lakh saplings, including free distribution to citizens, against a target of 81 lakh plantation. Of these, 2.11 lakh saplings were planted in open spaces, institutions, graveyards, avenue plantation, lakes etc. These are being protected through a contract system. Officials claimed that 91 per cent of the saplings survived.

Similarly, during 2017-18, 76 lakh saplings were planted against the target of 1 crore saplings. Of these, GHMC had planted 3.53 lakh in open spaces of institutions, lakes, greenways, green curtains and has been protecting them through contract system. The saplings registered 93 per cent survival rate.

Under the fourth edition, the GHMC identified 890 sites for planting five lakh saplings. This apart, zone-wise distribution of saplings is planned and citizens will be supplied with the species of their choice, including aromatic, herbal, flowering, ornamental, shade etc free of cost.
