Hyd Metro Rail launches vehicle sharing facility

Hyderabad, Jul 06: In a major good news for metro rail passengers, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has launched vehicle sharing platform with 125 bikes and scooters across 5 Metro stations in the city.

The business initiative is being carried out in collaboration with HMRL and LTMRHL. Soon, the service will be extended to other Metro stations and the fleet strength increased to 500.

The Metro stations that have been covered in Phase-I are: Tarnaka, Mettuguda, Kukatpally, Prakash Nagar and Balanagar. The company plans to charge Rs 3 per kilometre and will roll out special weekly, fortnightly and monthly subscription options. "The main objective of this initiative is to boost last-mile connectivity for Metro commuters," said HMRL Managing Director NVS Reddy.

Drivezy will allow customers to pick a two-wheeler from designated locations and drop them off at any Drivezy location within city limits. Unlike conventional rental services, this absolves the need of returning the vehicle at the point of origin, providing customers a greater degree of convenience.

This will allow customers to travel at half the price of autos and taxis. NVS Reddy said the HMRL was also working on the proposal to introduce a common ticket facility, where the same ticket can be used to travel on Metro and an RTC bus, reducing the hassle of having to purchase separately. He said automated parking system has been finalised for 24 stations on the Miyapur-Nagole stretch.

On multi-level car parking complexes, Reddy said the Request for Proposal (RFP) for multi-level car parking complexes will be floated in next 15 days.

"We will come out with a clear scheme on it within two months as the target given by Minister for IT and Municipal Administration KT Rama Rao", said Mr Reddy.

With regard to progress on the ongoing 72-km long elevated Hyderabad Metro Rail Project, Reddy said in August, services will be launched on Ameerpet to L B Nagar (16 km) stretch followed by Ameerpet and Hitec City (10 km) in October.
