U-turn in return: Zakir Naik statement

New Delhi, July 04: Zakir Naik, a controversial Islamic preacher facing charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, has dismissed reports which said he would return to India from Malaysia.

"The news of my coming to India is baseless and totally false," said Naik, who faces a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

"I have no plans to come to India till I [feel] safe from unfair prosecution. God willing, when I feel that the Indian government will be just and fair, I will surely return to my homeland."

Earlier today, several reports claimed that Zakir was deported to India from Malaysia. However, the reports have been turned down by National Investigation Agency (NIA) spokesperson Alok Mittal too. "We have no such information as of now. We are verifying it," Mittal said.
