Srikakulam, July 03: On June 10, a wild bear, reportedly infected with rabies, attacked the villagers--Baipilli Urvasi, her husband Tirupathi Rao, Baipilli Duryodhana and six others here at Srikakulam.

While Urvasi died on the same day during treatment, her husband succumbed later. The others were rushed to KGH hospital after being administered first-aid from Palasa CHC.



The villagers later chased and killed the animal by attacking it with sticks at Pitali village in Mandasa Mandal, according to media.

In this regard, a video is going viral on the social media. Villagers went on to attack the brown bear and, the enormous animal can be seen fighting back.

It pounces on one man, and locks its jaws around his arm, while pinning him to the ground, in Yerramukkam village near Srikakulam.

Villagers are then seen beating the bear with sticks in a desperate attempt to get it to loosen its grip on its victim.

Four men who tried to save the couple, and three more who later fought it off, were seriously injured in the battle.
