High court: Live-in relationship is not wrong

Kerala, June 02: On Friday, the Kerala High Court has made a key decision in a case reminding the Supreme Court ruling that by allowing a 19-year-old girl and an 18-year-boy to live together.

It said the court cannot "shut its eyes to live-in relationships", media reported.

According to the details, Dismissing the plea submitted by the girl's father, the High Court bench comprising Justice V Chitambaresh and Justice K P Jyothindranath said that such partners cannot be separated as they are majors.

The petition filed by Muhammed Riyad of Alappuzha seeking a directive to the police to produce his 19-year-old daughter who was being allegedly detained by the 18-year-old boy.

Earlier, The Supreme Court had recently held that adults have the right to be in a live-in relationship, even if they have not attained the legal age for marriage.
