Telangana: Summer holidays extended

Hyderabad, May 30: In a view of summer heat conditions, about 13,000 private schools are likely to extend summer vacation in the State.

Though the schools are slated to re-open on June 1, the private schools are likely to defer the re-opening date to June 11. However, private school managements are planning to hold the State Formation Day celebrations on a grand scale on June 2.

Y Shekhar Rao, general secretary, TRSMA-TS, said 13,000 private school managements have decided not to reopen the schools on June 11. A representation to this effect was also made to the Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiam Srihari.

"It is a risk factor for managements of private schools to run the schools while the State is witnessing such heatwave conditions. The schools will however hold the State Formation day celebrations on June 2 on a large scale. We will compensate the lost working days by reducing the number of days for Dasara and Sankrathi vacations besides taking classes on second Saturdays,"he said.

Starting from this year, the State government had decided to reopen schools on June 1 instead of June 12. Accordingly it issued a detailed academic calendar for 2018-19. As per the calendar, schools were to reopen on June 1 with the last working day being April 12, 2019. The summer vacation will be from April 13 to May 31.
