Not children, Parents asking for holiday extension

Hyderabad, May 28: The Parents of school-going children in the city are unhappy with the academic calendar released by the Telangana state government, and want the summer holidays to be extended as the weather is still hot.

Parents said that the government should extend the summer vacation to avoid any inconvenience to the children because of the heat.

The school education department had released the calender for the academic year 2018-19 on Wednesday. According to the schedule, the schools were to reopen on June 1. Students would get summer vacations from April 13 to May 31, 2019.

The schools are being reopened a day ahead of the Telangana State Formation Day celebrations scheduled for June 2.

"Even now the temperature is around 40 degrees Celsius in the state and it doesn't make sense to start classes from the beginning of June. There is no need to hurry. Instead classes should start around June 12 or 15," said Satyanarayana V, whose son is studying in class 7 at a private school.

Another parent, Kumari M said,"They shouldn't be starting school just for celebrating state formation day in a grand way on June 2. If needed, they can ask interested students to assemble at schools on the said day and participate in the celebrations."

Seconding with parents, child right activists too said that the government should postpone the reopening dates of schools.
