Ramzan moon sighted, fasting to begin from today

Hyderabad, May 17: The Major festival of the Muslims Ramzan, the month of fasting in Islam, will begin from Thursday as the moon was sighted on Wednesday.

In this regard, A spokesperson of Delhi’s Jama Masjid said the moon was sighted.

Muslim holy month of Ramadan will begin in Telangana on Thursday as the moon was sighted on Wednesday at 8 0 clock, Moon Sighting Committee announced.



Moulana Mufti Khaleel Ahmed announced that Thursday would be the first day of fasting month.

Sirens blared from mosques across Hyderabad to announce sighting of moon.

Arrangements have begun for “namaz-e-taraveeh”, special prayers offered every night throughout the month.

In this regard, Security has been beefed up in old Hyderabad ahead of Ramzan festival.

Speaking to ANI, V Satyanarayana, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Zone, said, "Since the old city of Hyderabad is very sensitive area, so we have deployed sufficient police personnel in order to prevent any in toward incidents." "Right from the early morning prayers to midnight Taraweeh prayers, we are deploying the force in and around the mosques to prevent clashes with other community people. All the shops will be opened for 24 hours, so we also deployed She Teams and Mufti Teams to prevent eve teasing and chain snatchings. We have already conducted meetings with Moulana's and religious heads to ensure free conduct of Ramzan," Satyanarayana said.
