Another Boat accident in West Godavari

West Godavari, May 16: Amaravati: Another boat capsized within a week near Polavaram on Godavari River in West Godavari District, on Tuesday. When the incident happened, there were about 50 passengers on board and some of them successfully reached the banks by swimming and remaining persons are under threat, according to the preliminary reports.

The place is identified at Mantoru village in Devipatnam between Polavaram and Devipatnam in West Godavari. Nearly 25 persons were feared drowned when a motor boat set off for Papikondalu, sank in the river Godavari on Tuesday.

According to information, the boat was carrying about 30 passengers when the mishap occurred. About four of five of them were seen trying to swim for safety while the rest are feared drowned.

Incidentally, the accident occurred almost at the same place where another boat caught fire due to short circuit in engine four days ago.

When the boat was going towards Vadapalem village, it was reportedly hit a hill because of the negligence of the operators. Meanwhile, Home Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa instructed both East and West Godavari districts Superintendents of Police officials to press the rescue teams immediately.
