IPL betting racket busted

Mancherial, May 12: Five persons were arrested in Mandamarri on Friday for allegedly betting on the ongoing IPL matches. Police seized a four-wheeler, laptop, five mobile phones and Rs 89,000 cash from them. Four others are still at large.

Bellampalli Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Balu Jadav said the accused were Irshad Rezu, Veeranna, Fayaz, Raju Thakre and Damu. While Irshad and Raju were from Maharashtra, the other three belonged to different parts of Mancherial. Venkata Sai, Prasanth, Vijay and Ravi are on the run, he said.

The five were caught red-handed at a house in Medari Basti of Mandamarri, following a tip-off. Police said Irshad organised the betting on Betsuperfast.com from Mumbai, Nagpur and Ghadchandpur cities of Maharashtra.

He roped in Veeranna as an agent and was luring youngsters by promising high returns. He made transactions worth Rs 9 lakh with the help of the agent.

Ramagundam Commissioner of Police Vikram Jeet Duggal announced rewards to sleuths of Task Force and Mandamarri police for busting the betting racket.
