New Delhi, Apr 30: The Income Tax Department is especially focusing on those who didn't file returns even though they have tax paid income. There is also a public awareness campaign in this regard, as it has set a target for increasing taxpayers.

The central government has decided to increase the number of taxpayers post demonetization. In this regard, the orders were issued to the Income Tax Department.

In the last fiscal, 1.5 crore new taxpayers were raised. Following this, there was a special focus on 65 lakh people who haven't filed their returns.

The department sources said it was aimed at increasing the number of taxpayers to 9.3 crores by taking action against those who do not follow the rules.

As many as 1.75 crores have failed to meet the Income Tax rules, they have decided to contact these e-mails and SMS. In this, 1.07 crore filed their returns voluntarily. The rest are good.
