Telangana Govt sanctions Rs.3,226 Cr for Malkapur reservoir

Hyderabad, Apr 23:The Telangana State government has released around Rs. 3,226 crore for completion of Malkapur reservoir in Jangaon district that could store 10.78 tmc of water brought from the Devadula lift irrigation project, said Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari.

The reservoir envisages irrigation of 6.21 lakh acres, of which 5.51 lakh acres lie in Warangal district. Initially, it was planned to draw 38 tmc of water. But now the state government has decided to draw 60 tmc of water.

The proposed project at Malkapur near Lingampalli village comprises two packages - one with nearly Rs. 1,114 crore and another with around Rs. 2,112 crore. This would ensure irrigation and drinking water in all 12 Assembly constituencies of the erstwhile district. Chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is scheduled to launch the works in the second week of June.

Mr Srihari said that under Devadula project, it was planned to fill 770 tanks across the district.
