Supreme Court dismisses Rajnikanths wife petition

New Delhi, Apr 17: The division bench, Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition filed by actor Rajinikanth's wife Latha against its order that directed her company to pay Rs 6.20 crore to Ad Bureau Advertising Pvt Ltd, media reported.

In February, the top court had ordered Media One Global Entertainment, where Latha Rajinikanth is a director, to pay the amount to Ad Bureau Advertising Limited within 12 weeks.

In its petition, Media One claimed that of the pending Rs 10 crore, Rs 9.20 crores had been paid to Ad Bureau and only Rs 80 lakh was left in dues.

The court's order is in connection with a case of cheating that was filed against her. In 2015, Ad Bureau Advertising Pvt Ltd alleged that Latha Rajinikanth illegally sold the rights of the movie Kochadaiiyaan to an entertainment company by producing fake documents in court.

Ad Bureau also alleged that it had lent Media One, one of the producers of Kochadaiiyaan, Rs 10 crore in April 2014 when the movie was running short of funds during post-production. Latha Rajinikanth was signed as a guarantor for the loan, and Ad Bureau claimed her company still owed it Rs 6.2 crore, according to The Times of India.

The Supreme Court ruled that if the dues were not cleared within the stipulated time, she would have to pay the amount herself.
