Centre plans to construct an expressway between Delhi and Mumbai

New Delhi, Apr 17: In order to reduce the travel time, The Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday that the Centre planned to construct an expressway between Delhi and Mumbai.
The project is expected to cost Rs 1 lakh crore and will be completed in three years, Gadkari added.
A Chambal Expressway connecting Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan to the Mumbai-Delhi Expressway is also being planned, the minister said, according to media.
Additionally, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is planning 10 projects to decongest Delhi, which together will cost around Rs 35,600 crore, Gadkari said. This includes the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and the Western Peripheral Expressway.
The minister said the projects would help tackle pollution caused by 40,000 commercial vehicles entering Delhi every day.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Eastern Peripheral Expressway on April 29. The Delhi-Dasna portion of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway will also be inaugurated on the same day.
A signal-free corridor from Dhaula Kuan to Indira Gandhi International Airport is also being built at a cost of Rs 260 crore, Gadkari said.
