Telanganas Asifabad stand most backward district

Hyderabad, Mar 29: Niti Aayog released the baseline ranking for 101 aspirational districts based on 49 indicators across five sectors.

The 49 indicators on 81 data points will cover five development areas of health and nutrition, education, agriculture and water resources, financial inclusion and skill development and basic infrastructure.

Niti Aayog's 'ranking for 101 aspirational districts' has ranked Haryana's Mewat as the most backward district in India followed by Asifabad (Telangana), Singrauli (MP), Kiphire (Nagaland) and Shrawasti (UP).

Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said that unless these backward districts improve, India cannot progress.

India cannot grow at a high rate on a long run until these districts catch up, whatever high are the GDP number, it has no meaning until the benefit of growth percolates down to very basic level, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said while announcing the launch of ranking for the "Aspirational Districts'.

Amitabh Kant said, "People will know which districts are performing well and which are lagging behind." Kant said that India can't develop without the progress of backward districts. Rejecting apprehensions about the availability of funds, he said that money is not the problem and governance failure can also be related to this backwardness.
