Hyderabad to become a hoarding-free City

Hyderabad, Mar 23: The Telangana Municipal Administration Minister, KT Rama Rao has called for a hoarding-free Hyderabad which will be achieved in a phased manner.

The hoardings are not only an eyesore for the motorists but also pose danger during calamities. Going by the changing weather pattern with the high-intensity rains, they are more dangerous, he said, addressing a group of journalists in the Assembly.

He said the revenue generated to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is not incommensurate with the dangers involved and public nuisance caused by them. "When New Delhi can be free of hoardings why can't Hyderabad," he said, adding that "My dream is to see a hoarding-free city, which has great potential to be an international city."

The Minister said a special enforcement wing in GHMC is looking into removing the hoardings. First, they are identifying hoardings that don't have permission, are structurally weak and cannot take on the weather changes.

All the hoardings will be removed in a phased manner. The High Court has also given a directive to remove illegal hoardings.
