Sasikala gets 15-day parole to attend husband's last rites

Chennai, Mar 20: Convicted former AIADMK leader VK Sasikala, who is currently lodged in Bengaluru’s Parappanna Agrahara Jail, has sought parole in the wake of her husband's death in the wee hours of Tuesday

Maruthappa passed away at the age of 76 at Gleneagles Global Health City Hospital in Chennai last night. He was hospitalized on Sunday after complaining of chest pain.

He was reportedly put on a ventilator as his condition worsened yesterday. He died of multiple organ failures.

His body is to be taken to his village in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu, about 350 km south of Chennai, for last rites.

Sasikala is currently serving a four-year sentence since February 15 last year after the Supreme Court upheld her conviction in a corruption case.
