Hyderabad Cab drivers observes silent Strike

Hyderabad, Mar 20: The Hyderabadi cab drivers working for taxi aggregators have extended support to the strike taken-up by their counterparts in New Delhi and Mumbai by wearing black badges here on Monday.

While cab drivers in Mumbai and New Delhi decided to stay away from roads, close to 15,000 cab drivers in Hyderabad decided to wear black badges and silently protest against what they allege to be exploitative practices employed by the taxi aggregators.

"The Transport Department should take strict action on taxi firms as they are violating permit conditions and doing illegal business", said Sheik Salauddin, president, Telangana Four Wheeler Driver's Association.

The drivers are demanding that the cab aggregators take notice of their falling returns."Most drivers have taken a loan of Rs 8 to 10 lakh for buying a vehicle to drive with these cab aggregators, but now drivers are not earning enough to pay even EMI for their vehicle," Salauddin added.

The drivers here maintained that in the near future if cab aggregators continue to ignore them and their demands, they would not hesitate to intensify the stir.
