Holi colours harmful to the health

New Delhi Mar 2: Holi is a festival of colors and many people are celebrating the festival with full fervors by applying colors to others on Face.However, experts have come up with new reports that suggest that the artificial colors available are harmful to people.

The Reports have said that "the colors may contain heavy metals like lead, chromium, cadmium, nickel, mercury, zinc and iron."

They also claim that "these metals cause various diseases such as renal failure, skin allergies, temporary blindness and even skin cancer in the case of mercury sulphite that is found in red gulaal."

Reports have also said that "the colors also contain chemicals, silica, and asbestos, which is a carcinogen.The Mercury can affect the central nervous system, copper can harm the eyes, skin, respiratory system and liver."

Doctors have said that "colors have an alkaline base and should be kept away from the eyes as they can cause temporary vision damage as well as long-term complications."
