E-Auction for Broadcasting rights of Cricket Matches

Mumbai Feb 23: In a Move to ensure Transparency in BCCI the Committee of Administrators who are currently heading cricket board have decided to Allocate the media rights of BCCI (broadcast and digital) for the upcoming international and domestic matches will be granted through e-auction. The Auction would take place on March 27.

The COA officials have said that the rights have been categorized into three components. A global television rights plus rest-of-world digital rights package, an Indian-subcontinent digital rights package, and a global consolidated rights package.

This decision assumes significance because earlier the rights were allocated based on the Bidding process and there was no transparency involved. The Supreme court had earlier directed the BCCI to go for e-Auction of broadcasting rights based on a PIL filed by Subramanian Swamy BJP MP.

The Media Rights would be sold for next 5 years as the present rights acquired by Star India would end in March 2018.
