Supreme Court to hear plea for Aadhaar-based voting system

New Delhi, Feb 20: The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear after 4 weeks a PIL seeking a direction to Election Commission to implement 'Aadhaar Based Election Voting System', to curtail bogus votes and ensure maximum participation, and link Aadhaar with movable and immovable property documents so that benami transactions can be tackled.

The petition was filed before a Bench comprising Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud which kept the matter for hearing in March.

“We will take it up after four weeks”, a bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra told senior advocate Vikas Singh who appeared for petitioner Delhi BJP leader advocate Ashwini Upadhyaya.

Singh requested the Chief Justice to "in the meanwhile please issue notice to Centre seeking it's reply". But the CJI refused.

"The current system is better, but not the best. Aadhaar-based voting system has more authentication of voters, better security of the voting process, it can protect the voted data and, most importantly, the voter can cast his vote from any corner of the country," the plea says
