Telangana Minister KTR calls survey for Musi River Modernization

Hyderabad, Feb 16 : The Telangana Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) KT. Rama Rao called for a survey of the Musi river using modern technology such as drones to understand its present status.

He conducted a review meeting with municipal and urban development officials on Thursday, where Musi River Front Development was discussed prominently.

Mr. Rao asked officials to prepare a master plan for the development of Musi, keeping in view its beautification and development. He wanted 40 kilometre of the river to be surveyed using drones.

The present status would be compared with earlier satellite maps to understand the extent of encroachments.

The Minister also reviewed the roads planned along the river and directed officials to prepare estimates and feasibility reports for construction of roads on both sides of the river along with an elevated express way.

The bridges being planned on the existing roads should aesthetically represent the history and culture of Hyderabad, he said.

Mr. Rama Rao also reviewed the status of lakes within the Outer Ring Road and said they would be developed phase-wise as part of long-term project. This year, the target is to develop a minimum of 50 lakes and tanks by monsoon by removing water hyacinth and taking up bund development works. Officials informed the Minister that proposals for beautification and development of 20 lakes are ready, while beautification of Durgam Cheruvu was under way.

The officials were asked to discuss measures against encroachment with the district Collectors before the lakes and tanks are developed.
