Cauvery  Verdict: Tamilnadu urges Karnataka government to follow SC Order

New Delhi Feb 16: The Supreme Court on Friday has delivered a Key long-standing issue of cauvery river water sharing between Karnataka and Tamilnadu states.

The court in its judgment has ordered the Karnataka government to release 177 TMC of Cauvery water to Tamilnadu and the Kannada state would get an increased allocation of 14.75 TMc water and Bengaluru city would get an additional 4.7 TMC water which would be used for drinking purposes.

The Total allocation of Karnataka is now 284.5 TMC.There were no changes in the allocation for Kerala and Puducherry. earlier Cauvery tribunal had allocated 30 TMC to Kerala and 7 TMC to Pudducherry.

Tamilnadu government had reacted to the judgment and said that "Originally awarded 192 TMC water to Tamil Nadu has been reduced with SC order. 14.75 TMC extra water has been given to Karnataka to provide drinking water to Bengaluru city. We hope that TN govt will take appropriate steps".

The court had also announced the formation of Cauvery water Management board which would ensure that all states get their due share .
