NEET Mandatory for Foreign Education

New Delhi Feb 12: In a move to improve the quality of doctors in India the Union Government is planning to make National Eligibility cum and Entrance Test (NEET) mandatory for students who wish to pursue medicine in foreign countries/ abroad from this year.

Officials of the Union ministry of health and family welfare said that "the move is aimed at ensuring that only good quality students study medicine in foreign universities."

Currently, students who return to India after pursuing medical education in Abroad must pass Foreign Medical Graduate Examination conducted by the Medical Council of India before they are registered to practice as doctors in the country.

However, the pass percentage is 10-15 % only and it is a serious challenge.Sources said that Students who don't qualify NEET wouldn't be given Essentiality Certificate (EC), which is the mandate for medical admissions abroad as well as the No Objection Certificate (NOC), without which they will not be able to practice in India after their course.

Currently, NEET is mandatory for getting admissions into Undergraduate and Post Graduate colleges in India.
