Police got 4300 bulletproof jackets but 1430 failed AK-47 test

Mumbai, Feb 05: Out of 5000 bulletproof jackets ordered by the Maharashtra police department, only 4,600 were received by them of which 1,430 failed AK-47 bullet test during trails.

The jackets were ordered by police for an amount of Rs 17 crore for 5000 jackets but got 4600 pieces after factoring in customs duty and other charges.

1,430 jackets which failed the test were returned to a Kanpur-based manufacturing firm.

"We have asked the manufacturer to replace the 1,430 jackets with a fresh stock. There will be no compromise on the quality and standards of the bulletproof jackets and we will take a delivery from the same manufacturer after testing those bulletproof jackets again," the official said.
