Panic Button in Feature Phones for women defered

New Delhi Jan 4: The Government had postponed some measures which are aimed to protect women.Sources said that "A trial of panic button facility on mobile phones, aimed at helping women in distress, has been delayed due to the lack of GPS facility in feature phones."

Earlier the Government in 2016 had ordered all mobile manufacturers in 2016 to mandatorily provide a panic button and a GPS facility on cell phones to help women in distress. However, the Feature Phones were exempted from providing GPS.

Official have said that "The Department of Telecom has said that enabling GPS location is a technological challenge on feature phones."

Earlier the Trial of this feature phone was supposed to start in UP from Jan 26 but it was postponed due to technical issues.
