Minister KTR: Thandas will converts into grama panchayats soon

Rajanna-Sircilla, Feb 02: The Telangana Minister for IT and Municipal Administration KT Rama Rao has said that the Telangana State government is contemplating to get new a Panchayat Raj Act very soon in order to strengthen the grama panchayats.

While participating in various developmental programs, including the inauguration of model grama panchayat office building in Mustabad mandal headquarters on Thursday, he said that the new Act would provide more funds to the GPs and allocate more powers to the sarpanches. Besides, a provision was also being made in the Act to remove inefficient sarpanches, he said.

The funding by the Centre and State governments alone would not help in the development of the villages, he said, and added that the sarpanches and the ward members should play a responsible role in the development of their villages. He said that the villagers should also pay their taxes, power and water bills regularly, for the better functioning of the grama panchayats.

He said that discussions were going on at the top level about the new Panchayat Raj Act, and added that the thandas would be also made into grama panchayats very soon. Positions and power are not permanent. It is only the villages which would be there forever, he remarked.
