Telangana pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi

Hyderabad, Jan 30: Telangana has joined the Nation in paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his 70th death anniversary which is also observed as Martyrs Day, on Tuesday.Governor ESL Narasimhan paid floral tributes to the Father of the Nation at Bapu Ghat near the city.

Several leaders belonging to different political hues garlanded the larger than life-size statues of Mahatma in various parts of the state.

At the stroke of 1100 hours, vehicular traffic on all roads in the twin cities of Hyderabad, Secunderabad and other towns of the state came to a standstill for two minutes as a mark of respect to Gandhi.

Government employees in the state secretariat and other offices also observed two minutes silence to mark the day.Social bodies organized meetings where groups of singers rendered Gandhi's favorite bhajans.
