Loan recovery agents allegedly crush Dalit farmer under tractor

Lucknow, Jan 22: In a brutal incident, a farmer was crushed to death under a tractor by loan recovery agents here in Sitapur, 100 kms away from Lucknow.

The deceased farmer, who was identified as Gyan Chandra, had borrowed Rs 5 lakh from a private finance company, L&T a few years ago. His family members said that Chandra recently paid Rs 35,000 to the company a couple of weeks ago. As the loan repayment go delayed by a few weeks, the recovery agents came to him a day ago and demanded that Chandra return his tractor.

On Monday, an argument broke out between the farmer and the agents. Subsequently, they decided to take the tractor away, one of the agents pushed Chandra before the tractor. He was crushed to death before his family members. The police has registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the accused.

Chandra is survived by a family of seven including five daughters and owned 2.5 acres of land.
