US Govt shuts down as Democrats oppose extention bill

Washington Jan 20: In a Major development the US government had shut down at midnight after Congress failed to resolve a partisan standoff over immigration and spending.

Earlier the Senate Democrats blocked a bill that was aimed to keep the government running for another four weeks.Both the parties have failed to negotiate.

Democrats have demanded an extension of an Obama-era program protecting some young immigrants from deportation which would expire in March.

The shutdown is the fourth government closure in 25 years.It will partially curb government operations.Uniformed service members, health inspectors, and law enforcement officers are set to work without pay. Sources said that the effects of a shutdown would be visible from Monday as it is a weekend.



US President Trump has tweeted that "Not looking good for our great Military or Safety & Security on the very dangerous Southern Border. Dems want a Shutdown in order to help diminish the great success of the Tax Cuts, and what they are doing for our booming economy."

This shutdown comes at the time when the president completes 1 year in his office.
