ACB nabs 2 tax officials for accepting bribe of Rs.23 lakh

Vijayawada, Jan 13: In a major tip-off, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials have nabbed Additional Commissioner (State Tax Enforcement wing) U. Yedukondalu and his office Superintendent Ananta Reddy, while they were allegedly accepting Rs. 23.02 lakh as bribe from a construction company, at the Commercial Taxes office on Friday.

They also booked ITD Cementation India Limited deputy manager K. Satyanarayana and legal consultant I. Gopal Sharma, who allegedly offered the bribe.

"The deal was struck to provide input tax credit refund of Rs. 4.67 crore tax and the company representatives agreed to give Rs. 25 lakh to the Commercial Tax (CT) officials. We kept vigil since Thursday, and finally rounded up the accused on Friday evening, while Yedukondalu was taking the amount at the Commissioner of Commercial Taxes office in Vijayawada," ACB Director-General R.P. Thakur said.



ITD Cementation is in the construction business for the last few years and has taken up works in ports, highways, flyovers, bridges, and airports.

The ACB registered cases against four persons, including Yedukondalu, his superintendent and the two company representatives. Police raided the Additional Commissioner's office and simultaneous raids are going on, the DG said.
