Telangana Govt issues Notices to tax defaulters

Hyderabad Jan 12: In a Move to crack the whip on the tax defaulters the Telangana state government has issued notices to 7,000 traders for defaulting taxes on a single day on Thursday. The defaulters owed Rs 780 crore tax dues to the state government for the last three years.

A special official team headed by State Principal Secretary to Revenue (Commercial Taxes and Excise) has initiated proceedings to recover the tax dues.

The officials said that "all the data available with the department was analyzed in detail and notices were served to all the traders who did not pay the tax return from June 2, 2014, to June 2, 2017. Traders, who submitted the filings before the single tax regime GST enforced on July last year were only targeted. In many cases, traders submitted tax filings and evaded the payment to the government. In some cases, the department did not take any action against the defaulters since 2014."

"All the defaulters were given a week’s time to respond to the notices. If anyone failed, the traders’ bank accounts will be attached and dues would be recovered directly from the financial institutions" officials added.
